Drosera ‘Hercules’ — Hybrid Sundew Beautiful and unusual Drosera ‘Hercules’, a striking sundew known for its attractive rosette, long leaves covered in sparkling sticky insect-catching tentacles, and vigorous growth. Its unique appearance and impressive size when mature make it a great choice for collectors looking for something a little more distinctive than the common Drosera varieties. Light: Bright light is ideal. It can tolerate several hours of direct sunlight, which can encourage stronger coloration, compact growth, and better dew production. Avoid sudden transitions from low light to intense sunlight, as this can stress the plant. Watering: Keep the growing medium consistently moist during active growth. The pot can sit in a shallow tray of distilled, reverse-osmosis, or rainwater. Avoid allowing the growing medium to completely dry out. Temperature: Prefers moderate temperatures around 15–27°C. Protect it from extreme heat, freezing temperatures, and sudden temperature changes. Humidity: Average household humidity is generally suitable. Good airflow is beneficial, and it doesn’t require extremely high humidity to grow well. Soil: Use a very well-draining, nutrient-poor carnivorous-plant mix, such as peat and perlite or long-fiber sphagnum moss with perlite. Avoid regular potting soil, compost, and fertilizer-rich mixes. Feeding: The sticky leaves naturally catch small insects such as fungus gnats, fruit flies, and other tiny insects. There’s generally no need to fertilize the soil, and avoid applying fertilizer directly to the leaves. Difficulty: Easy to moderate and beginner-friendly with the right conditions. Drosera ‘Hercules’ is relatively adaptable, but providing strong light, consistent moisture, and good airflow will help it stay healthy and produce plenty of dew. Growth: With good conditions, it can develop a beautiful rosette with long, sticky leaves covered in sparkling dew and produce attractive flowers once mature. As it grows, the plant can become quite impressive in size, making it an excellent centerpiece for a carnivorous plant collection. Important: Use low-mineral water whenever possible and never allow the growing medium to completely dry out during active growth. Never use regular fertilizer or standard houseplant soil, as excess nutrients can damage the plant. A unique and beautiful carnivorous sundew that’s a great addition to a windowsill, terrarium, or specialized plant collection!
