Lowland Nepenthes can be grown successfully in captivity with the right care and conditions. Here are the general steps for growing Lowland Nepenthes in captivity:
-
Choose the right container: Nepenthes plants require containers that are at least 8-10 inches deep with good drainage. Plastic or ceramic pots with drainage holes are suitable.
-
Use the right soil: Nepenthes plants prefer a well-draining soil that is a mixture of peat moss, perlite, and sphagnum moss. You can also add orchid bark or charcoal to improve drainage.
-
Provide the right amount of light: Lowland Nepenthes require bright, indirect sunlight for optimal growth. A location near a south-facing window or under fluorescent grow lights is ideal.
-
Water properly: Nepenthes plants prefer to be kept moist, but not waterlogged. Water them regularly, and make sure the soil is never allowed to dry out completely.
-
Provide humidity: Nepenthes plants prefer a humid environment. You can provide humidity by placing a tray of water near the plants or by using a humidifier.
-
Fertilize regularly: Nepenthes plants require regular fertilization to thrive. Use a balanced fertilizer that is formulated for carnivorous plants, and apply it every 2-4 weeks during the growing season.
-
Watch for pests: Nepenthes plants can be susceptible to pests such as aphids, mealybugs, and spider mites. Check the plants regularly for signs of infestation, and treat them promptly if necessary.
By following these steps, you can grow healthy and thriving Lowland Nepenthes in captivity. It’s important to note that Nepenthes are tropical plants and require warm temperatures (around 70-80°F) and high humidity to thrive.

I would Highly Recommend shipping in 2 days or sooner. The less time the plants have go through travel & handling and the sooner it gets sunlight the better for the plant!
I purchased the same kind of plants from another company and the plants were smaller and had no pitchers/cups on them. They survived for about 4-6 months but was never able to get a pitcher to grow… but now I feel I am more prepared for this set. I have them in a terrarium tank and temporarily have bubble on top to help with increasing the humidity.
I poked a few holes into the bubble wrap and made a couple little windows out of the bubble wrap b/c I know they need airflow as well.
I'm looking to have an acrylic top made with little holes and windows (two corner windows; one opposite from the other) for circulation (fresh airflow)!
Thank you!
