This flytrap features red leaves and traps. Young plants are bright red throughout. As the plant matures, it turns maroon with a green margin along the edge of the traps. This variety tends to be slightly temperamental when its roots are disturbed during the growing season, so it’s best to repot this plant in early season or while it’s dormant. In winter, this variety will drop all of its leaves, leaving nothing to show. In summer, it will require lots of sunlight to maintain its red color. Though very attractive, Burgundy is best suited for those who are successful growing the more common forms of flytraps.

Your Venus flytrap plant kit will be shipped in a generous moss plug. Included in this kit is our 3″ professional grower’s-grade porous plastic pot and enough top-quality long-fiber moss to completely fill it. Planting and detailed care instructions will also be included for a complete growing experience.

Our USA-grown Venus Fly Trap (Dionaea Muscipula), also known atrapamoscas, is a unique and fascinating carnivorous plant. This subtropical wetland species features bright green leaves topped with hinged lobes at each end. A striking blast of red is visible on the inner surfaces of the lobes which are outlined with small bristles that interlock when trapping prey. This stunning perennial is native to the coastal plains of North and South Carolina and holds a unique ability to trap and consume small, unsuspecting bugs. Venus Fly Traps get essential nutrients through the soil and by consuming small insects such as gnats, beetles, flies, mosquitos and spiders. Each modified leaf can be expected to catch five to eight insects before it dies, at which point new traps will grow in their stead. White flowers with green veins will bloom during spring, however the flowering process for a Venus Fly Trap can exhaust and consume significant energy from the plant. For this reason, plant owners may choose to trim away the flowering stalks.

In addition to being useful, the Venus Fly Trap is also a naturally beautiful addition to any type of indoor or outdoor décor. Display them in tall pots, a plant terrarium, on a plant stand, and much more. Venus Fly Traps thrive in bright, indirect sunlight locations and should be kept in moist, acidic soil. When the soil becomes damp to the touch (never soggy or wet), that’s when you know it’s time to water. We recommend deeply watering with distilled, reverse osmosis, or rainwater only, as Venus Fly Traps prefer water that is free from chlorine, minerals, or salts. Venus flytraps are best kept in a temperature range of 70-90°F with humidity maintained at 50-80%, mist the foliage to increase humidity.

Each Venus Flytrap ships fully rooted in a 3 inch grow pot and will be approximately 3 to 4 inches tall. We take every precaution to package your plants for a successful arrival. Venus Fly Traps trees are resilient, although more fragile leaves may experience minimal damage in-transit. Every so often a package will endure some stress, causing some soil or plants to come loose. Should soil disruption occur, simply put the loose soil back in the pot, dampen it, and make a hole to place the plant in. To stabilize the plant, gently push soil around the base.

Venus Fly Trap (Dionaea muscipula), also known as atrapamoscas, is a live carnivorous plant native to the coastal plains of North and South Carolina. This fascinating perennial features an overall shade of bright green with a striking blast of red on the inner surfaces of its hinged leaves. Venus Fly Traps get essential nutrients by consuming unsuspecting small insects such as a gnat, beetle, fly, mosquito and spider. Each modified leaf on this bug killer can be expected to catch five to eight insects before it dies, at which point new traps will grow in their stead. These exciting plants make exceptional home gifts for a housewarming party and are fabulous to give as favors at a baby shower or wedding. For an eye-catching display of home decor, plant your Venus Fly Trap in a decorative planter and arrange on a plant stand or create a vibrant plant terrarium with your choice of sand, dirt, rocks, and more.

Venus Fly Trap plants are also ideal for grabbing attention when displayed on a desk in a classroom. You can even try growing your own Venus Fly Trap plant with Dionaea muscipula seeds and other types of carnivora seed. An adult Venus Fly Trap can reach a diameter of 4 to 5 inches and prefers bright, indirect sunlight. We recommend watering Venus Fly Trap once per week with distilled water or rainwater that is free from chlorine, minerals, or salts. As the plant becomes mature, the roots will become long and grow deep into the soil, best suited for planting in tall pots. White flowers with green veins will bloom during spring, however the flowering process for a Venus Fly Trap can exhaust and consume significant energy from the plant. For this reason, plant owners may choose to trim away the flowering stalks. A small amount of carnivorous plant fertilizer can be added to the maintenance process for boosted vitality.
